Breadmaker Recipies


ITALIAN HERB BREAD - use dough setting
(Great with a pasta dish)

1 1/4 cup water
2 tbsp powdered milk
2 tbsp shortening
2 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
3 1/3 cups flour
1 tsp dried majoram
1 tsp dried basil
1 tsp dried thyme
1 3/4 tsp yeast
Once the dough is ready, you can either cut it into small pieces, roll into balls and place on a greased cookie sheet, baking at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes or until light brown. OR you can cut it into four and shape into small loafs/baguettes. Place on cookie sheet and bake at 350 until light brown, approximately 15 minutes.

APPLE ROLL – Use dough setting
(Delicious served hot for breakfast, lunch or as dessert)

Make your typical dough recipe (ie. what you would use to make cinnamon buns) with your breadmaker.
Roll out dough into a big rectangle on a floured surface.
Mix ¼ cup margarine with 1/3 cup breadcrumbs and spread evenly over surface.
Peel and thinly slice 3 to 5 apples and place on top. Cover with ¼ to a ½ cup of sugar and lots of cinnamon. Roll up the dough slowly and tightly to form a big apple roll. Karate chop the ends so that nothing leaks out. Carefully place in a greased pan, seam side down. Can brush egg yolk or egg white on top if you want for looks. If you like it to be more “bready”, let it rise for ½ hour. My kids like a thinner crust, so I pop it straight into the oven.
Bake 350 for 35-45 minutes till golden brown.
Adjust apples and sugar to your taste. Can use other fresh fruits instead, like pears and peaches. Great treat for the family.


JAM BUNS – Use dough setting
(Great for kids lunches or as a special snack)

Make your typical dough recipe (ie. for cinnamon buns) with your breadmaker.
Roll out dough into a big rectangle on a floured surface.
Use a sharp knife and cut into 3 inch squares. Place a ½ tsp of your favorite jam in the centre. Pick up the four corners of the square, pinch them together and then pinch all openings shut. Place pinched side down in a greased pan. Grease sides of bun with a bit of vegetable oil. Allow ½ hour to rise (can put it in an oven that was heated to 250F and then turned off) if you want them bigger, but you can put them straight into the oven if you are in a rush. Bake 350 for 30 minutes. Best when warm, but watch the hot jam on the inside if you bite in too soon.


HERB BUBBLE BREAD – Use dough setting

4 oz water
4 oz milk
l tsp salt
l large egg, beaten
2 tbsp butter or margarine
1 tbsp sugar
2 ½ cups flour
2 ¼ tsp dry yeast

Place in breadmaker on dough setting. Once done, remove and divide dough into 12-16 parts, rolling them into balls. Dip in herb mixture. Place in greased pan. Let rise 30 minutes. Bake 350 for 25-30 minutes.

HERB MIXTURE:
¼ cup butter or margarine melted
l tsp paprika
¼ cup parmesan
½ tsp garlic powder
½ tsp dry minced onion (can take it from an onion soup dry mix or even omit it)


NUT BREAD – Quick Bread Setting, Not for Timer

10 oz milk
l large egg, beaten
3 tbsp vegetable oil
2 ¾ cup flour
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup brown sugar
3 ½ tsp baking powder
l tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1 cup chopped walnuts

Put into breadmaker in the order listed above.


HOME MADE PRETZELS - Karen M., Kingston

Any recipe for regular bread.
Put on dough setting.
Lightly roll out on floured surface.
Cut into strips and form into pretzels.
Brush a beaten egg on top. Sprinkle with either coarse salt, sesame seeds or poppy seeds.
Place on lightly greased cookie sheet.
Bake at 425 for 10 minutes.
